Hulu is developing the beloved FOX show Prison Break reboot.

Elgin James, co-creator and showrunner of Mayans M.C., is penning the TV series, which is in its early stages of development, under his Sierra Drive label. The protagonists at the heart of the original jailhouse drama, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), are not expected to appear in the next edition, which will be distributed by 20th Television.

Prison Break revolves around Lincoln Burrows, who finds himself unjustly sentenced to death, and his brother Michael Scofield, who devises a scheme to orchestrate Lincoln’s prison escape. The series achieved immense popularity, becoming a ratings sensation and earning a Golden Globe award for Best Television Series – Drama during its first season.

Prison Break had a successful five-season run on Fox, giving rise to various related content, including a TV movie titled The Final Break, as well as a low-budget spinoff called Prison Break: Proof of Innocence, which was exclusively accessible on mobile devices. The show’s popularity extended to other mediums, with a video game, online webisodes, a magazine, and even a novel all inspired by the series.
