Lessons in Chemistry Trailer: Brie Larson Teaches Women More Than Just Recipes

Apple TV+ released the Lessons in Chemistry trailer where Brie Larson challenges women’s prejudices in the 1950s.

The limited series’ trailer, set to Harry Styles‘ emotive ballad Sign of the Times, teases the dramatic narrative of Elizabeth Zott, whose goal of becoming a scientist is stymied at every turn in 1950s patriarchal society. Based on author/science editor Bonnie Garmus’s New York Times best-selling debut novel, the Larson-led drama follows Elizabeth’s surprising path from scientist to famous chef after she loses her laboratory position as a chemist.

“In life, discoveries usually lead to more questions. The only constant variable is the unexpected,” Elizabeth says in the trailer. “We can’t control it. It’s only when you look backwards that you see how it was all connected.”

The eight-part drama will follow the science-obsessed single mother through new love, motherhood, and her surprising career as a cookery show star. Above all, the series is about Elizabeth refusing to accept anything less than what she believes she deserves, regardless of the external factors — particularly, patriarchy — that try to persuade her.

“Children set the table. Your mother needs a moment to herself, ” says Elizabeth in the last moments of the Lessons in Chemistry trailer.

Along with The Marvels‘ Larson, the series stars Lewis Pullman, Aja Naomi King, Stephanie Koenig, Kevin Sussman, Patrick Walker, and Thomas Mann. Susannah Grant executive produces with Larson, Michael Costigan, Sarah Adina Smith, Louise Shore, Jason Bateman for Aggregate Films, and Natalie Sandy for Piece of Work Entertainment.

Lessons in Chemistry released on Apple TV+ on October 13 with the first two episodes, followed by fresh episodes every Friday afterwards.
