Amazon’s MGM Studios is currently in the early stages of developing a Poltergeist TV series, classic horror film.

Originally co-authored and produced by Steven Spielberg in 1982, Poltergeist TV series will feature Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey as executive producers, representing Amblin Television, the production company behind the original film. The TV series will draw inspiration from the universe of the iconic horror movie.

Featuring JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, and Beatrice Straight, the 1982 movie revolves around the Freeling family. Shortly after relocating to their suburban residence, they discover that their home is inhabited by malevolent spirits who have taken their 5-year-old daughter, Carol Anne. To rescue their child, the parents seek the assistance of a parapsychologist and a spiritual medium in their quest to free Carol Anne.

he original movie achieved massive success upon its release, earning around $121 million worldwide, surpassing its reported budget of $10.7 million. Additionally, it received three Academy Award nominations in the categories of best visual effects, best sound effects editing, and best original score.

his would mark the second television series set in the Poltergeist universe. The previous show, Poltergeist: The Legacy, ran on Showtime for three seasons and later had a fourth and final season on the Sci-Fi Channel in 1999. The series revolved around The Legacy, a global organization dedicated to safeguarding humanity from supernatural threats.
