A Live-Action Gargoyles Series in Works at Disney+

Gargoyles

Disney+ is set to bring the iconic Gargoyles to life with an upcoming live-action series. The project will be developed by Gary Dauberman and James Wan.

Walt Disney Television Animation made Gargoyles, which lasted three seasons from 1994 to 1997. The series followed the story of gargoyle statues transported from a Scottish castle to contemporary New York. Breaking a millennia-old spell, these statues come to life and adopt the responsibility of safeguarding the city, transforming into formidable warriors at night while turning to stone during the day.

Gargoyles debuted amid an era of series animation innovation, riding a wave of shows with more intricate stories and darker tones that included Batman: The Animated Series and X-Men.

While Disney hasn’t explicitly tried to put the series into other mediums, it did attempt to create a gargoyles-in-modern-times film in 2010, about the same time it released The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. The latter bombed at the box office, and the project was shelved not long after.
