Zellners’ Sasquatch Sunset with Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg Set from Bleecker Street

Today, Bleecker Street announced the upcoming release of Sasquatch Sunset. A film directed by David and Nathan Zellner, known for their work on “Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter” and “Damsel.” The cast includes Riley Keough, Jesse Eisenberg, Nathan Zellner, and Christophe Zajac-Denek from “Twin Peaks: The Return.” Currently in post-production, the movie is anticipated to be part of the lineup at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in January.

Bleecker Street joined the project for its U.S. release in 2022, and the film was quietly shot in Northern California. Titled “Sasquatch Sunset,” it is a collaboration between Square Peg, ZBI, and The Space Program. Furthermore, the producers include Lars Knudsen, Tyler Campellone, Nathan Zellner, David Zellner, George Rush, Jesse Eisenberg, and David Harari. Ari Aster, director of “Beau Is Afraid,” serves as an executive producer along with Riley Keough and Gina Gammell under their Felix Culpa Banner. Moreover, the theatrical release by Bleecker Street is scheduled for 2024.

Written by David Zellner, “Sasquatch Sunset” explores “a year in the life of a singular family,” with specific plot details currently kept under wraps.

The deal was negotiated by Kent Sanderson and Avy Eschenasy for Bleecker Street, with producer George Rush representing the filmmakers. Protagonist Pictures is handling the international sales rights.

Moreover, Jesse Eisenberg, who plays a Sasquatch in the film, shared his excitement in a Variety interview, stating, “They’re just these brilliant directors that I’ve wanted to work with for a long time, and I’m playing a Sasquatch.” Furthermore, He added, “In full makeup. In full body hair. No lines — I grunt, but no lines — and I’m so looking forward to this.”

Additionally, The Zellner Brothers have a longstanding interest in Bigfoot, with their Sundance award-winning short film “Sasquatch Birth Journal 2” released in 2010. They have also directed episodes of the Showtime/A24 series “The Curse.
