Willem Dafoe reveals he will star as a dead police detective in the afterlife in Beetlejuice 2.

Production on Beetlejuice 2 has recently resumed following the resolution of the WGA and SAG strikes. Tim Burton is set to return as the director, with Michael Keaton reprising his role as the iconic Beetlejuice. The sequel will also feature familiar faces, including Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz. Joining the cast are new additions Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci.

During an interview with Variety, Dafoe shared some updates about his character in the new film. “I haven’t seen any footage yet, but it was fun to do,” said Dafoe. “I play a police officer in the afterlife, so I’m a dead person. And in life, I was a B-movie action star, but I had an accident and that’s what sent me to the other side. But because of my skills, I became a detective character in the afterlife. So that’s my job. But it’s colored by the fact of who I was [when I was alive]: a B movie action star.”

Beetlejuice 2 is scheduled to release in theaters on September 6, 2024.
