Tim Burton was disturbed when he saw an article where AI was used to recreate his style distinctive of animation.

The Nightmare Before Christmas creator acknowledged that some Disney characters reimagined in a Buzzfeed article were “very good,” but it made him uncomfortable. The reimagined Disney characters included a Sleeping Beauty with a pale face, long blonde hair, dressed in black with stitches on her cheeks; a Pocahontas in a Sleepy Hollow-like spooky forest; and a Snow White with black hair and eerie, oversized eyes.

In an interview with Independent, Tim Burton said, “They had AI do my versions of Disney characters! I can’t describe the feeling it gives you. It reminded me of when other cultures say, ‘Don’t take my picture because it is taking away your soul.’”

He continued, “What it does is it sucks something from you. It takes something from your soul or psyche; that is very disturbing, especially if it has to do with you. It’s like a robot taking your humanity, your soul.”

The usage of AI has contributed to the reasons why writers and performers in Hollywood is on strike.
