The Nun 2 may be the most violent film in The Conjuring Universe, according to director Michael Chaves.
The Nun 2, written by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and Akela Cooper (Malignant), continues up four years after the events of the previous part with Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga). Irene films from Romania to Italy in an attempt to put the past behind her and live a tranquil life in a convent. Valak (Bonnie Aarons), on the other hand, isn’t far behind.
In an interview with SFX Magazine, Chaves talks about the new part will be darker than the rest. “I think that this does get darker. Even audiences have said this, when we screened it. It is definitely more violent than what they expected from a Conjuring movie.”
“It’s always a delicate balance. It’s definitely scary, it’s 100% delivered on that. Just as horror audiences have developed the appetite for horror, the appetite for violence has started to increase, and so there are some violent elements in this,” he continues.
The first movie, directed by Corin Hardy and written by Gary Dauberman, grossed $365.6 million against a budget of $22 million. Valak initially appeared in The Conjuring 2 and terrified audiences all over the world.
The Nun 2 hits theatre on September 8.
