Disney has taken The Bikeriders, the motorcycle drama from 20th Century Studios, off its release schedule. Now, New Regency, the financier, is actively seeking a new distributor for this star-studded film.
New Regency is actively exploring various distribution options for The Bikeriders, including the possibility of a streaming release. Insiders at the company believe there’s insufficient time to execute a proper publicity campaign post the SAG-AFTRA strike, particularly with the holiday season approaching.
The urgency is heightened by New Regency’s recent disappointment with The Creator, which, with a reported production budget of $80 million, grossed $103 million worldwide and contributed to the departure of the film and television president, Michael Schaefer, after seven years in the role.
The movie is written and directed by Jeff Nicholas. It features a cast including Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, and Tom Hardy. Inspired by a series of photographs by Danny Lyon, the film premiered globally at Telluride in September and was presented to Academy members in October.
