Ralph Macchio, the lead actor in the original 1984 film The Karate Kid, and martial arts icon Jackie Chan, who featured in the 2010 reboot of the same name, are set to reprise their roles in Sony’s upcoming sequel.

In a first-time collaboration, both actors will be reprising their original characters in the same action movie. Chan and Macchio announced in a video that they are returning to the film and has initiated a worldwide casting search to discover the next Karate Kid. They invite aspiring talents to showcase their skills by submitting their best videos online for a chance to secure a role in the upcoming movie.

While plot details are currently under wraps, the studio has set a release date of December 13, 2024, for the yet-to-be-titled project.

The Karate Kid film franchise has amassed over $430 million in global box office revenue. Additionally, it features the Emmy-nominated sequel series Cobra Kai, where Macchio recently revisited his role as Daniel LaRusso, doubling as an executive producer.
