Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix reunite once again in first trailer at Sony’s action epic about the French Revolutionary Wars commander, Napoleon.

As per the movie’s official synopsis: “‘Napoleon’ is an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Joséphine. The film captures Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.”

A poster is also released with the marketing tagline: “He came from nothing. He conquered everything.”

Alongside Phoenix, Napoleon stars Vanessa Kirby as Empress Joséphine, Tahar Rahim as Paul Barras, Ben Miles as Caulaincourt, Ludivine Sagnier as Theresa Cabarrus, Matthew Needham as Lucien Bonaparte, Youssef Kerkour as Marshal Davout, Phil Cornwell as Sanson ‘The Bourreau,’ Edouard Philipponnat as Tsar Alexander, Paul Rhys as Talleyrand, John Hollingworth as Marshall Ney, Gavin Spokes as Moulins and Mark Bonnar as Jean-Andoche Junot.

Scott also reunites with All the Money in the World screenwriter David Scarpa, who scripted the picture. Scott also acts as a producer with co-producers Winston Azzopardi, Raymond Kirk, and Janine Modder, as well as executive producer Aidan Elliott.

The first look includes several vast battlefield panoramas depicting the French military commander and political leader who climbed to popularity during the French Revolution and led several successful wars throughout the Revolutionary Wars before becoming Emperor of France in 1804.

The film’s initial title, Kitbag, was apparently inspired on the typical saying, “There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag” – a reference to how every fighting man has the potential for greatness.

The Apple production will debut exclusively in theatres on Thanksgiving weekend, November 22, and will be available to stream on Apple TV+ at a later date.
