Rick Riordan talks about the possibility of Percy Jackson and the Olympians securing a second season on Disney+.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians has garnered exceptionally positive reviews and impressive audience scores due to it’s faithful adaptation. The first episode of the series achieved record-breaking viewership, making it the most-watched premiere among all Disney Branded Television offerings and ranking among the top five season premieres of 2023.

It comes as no surprise that author Riordan is optimistic about the greenlighting of additional episodes. During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Riordan expressed his confidence.

“We are doing what we can to prepare [for] the eventuality that we get the green light. We don’t know. It is not official. You know, we’re getting reactions like we’ve had tonight, amazing reactions everywhere… so, if I was the Oracle, I would say the Auguries are good, but, we had started writing what those episodes would look like, sort of doing a series format, talking about the first few episodes, and that’s about as much as we can do right now until we get the go-ahead. So, the best way to ensure that [the show] goes forward, [is to] tell your friends to tune in to Disney+ and watch.”

The premiere of the series garnered 13.3 million views within the first six days of streaming. While Disney hasn’t disclosed many directly comparable figures, and the official top 5 show debuts list is currently undisclosed, previous reports indicated that Ahsoka debuted with 14 million views over five days, and Loki‘s second season reached 10.9 million in just three days. These numbers suggest that Percy Jackson‘s six-day total easily surpassed these benchmarks.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 4 will release on January 2.
