Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum says that Kingpin serve as a street-level threat equivalent of Thanos for heroes such as Daredevil and Spider-Man.

During an interview with Screen Rant, the executive producer was asked about the progression of the well-known villain, transitioning from a foe for grounded characters handling non-world-threatening adversaries to potentially becoming a villain for the Avengers.

Winderbaum couldn’t reveal many details, but he managed to drop a hint to make fans excited. “I can’t say too much. Only that as a chapter in Wilson Fisk’s life this is a crucial one and sets the stage in some remarkable ways for what’s coming next.”

Vincent D’Onofrio expressed his desire to see Wilson Fisk face off against all of the MCU heroes. He also talked his character Kingpin in Echo.

“I wanted there to be an emotional life first. His connection to Maya. I wanted to remind people, if they had seen the original Daredevil, that he can care for people in a real way. And if they didn’t see Daredevil before, that this character can care for people in a certain way. And so that was one important aspect because without that, I don’t think he’s as scary or as interesting.”

The backstory of Echo delves into the life of Maya Lopez, whose ruthless actions in New York City come back to haunt her in her hometown. To move forward, she must confront her past, rediscover her Native American heritage, and embrace the values of family and community.

Echo releases on January 9 on Disney+.
