Sources have confirmed that Paramount’s Sonic The Hedgehog 3 will shoot scenes not involving actors from September as SAG-AFTRA strike continues.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has a release date of December 20, 2024, assuming no delays. It differs from the previous two films, which were released earlier in the year (February 2020 and April 2022, respectively). The box office performance of such films demonstrates that a Christmas release makes perfect sense.

Sonic, played by Ben Schwartz, was the sole confirmed character in the planned third film. Idris Elba, took his skills to the realm of Sonic, appearing as fan-favorite video game character Knuckles the Echidna. Knuckles was certain to return for Sonic 3 given that he is poised to have his own spin-off series on Paramount+.

While the details of the third film has been kept under wraps, the appearance of the Sonic movie universe’s version of Shadow the Hedgehog was, of course, the biggest tease from Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

The dark transition from Sonic 2‘s post-credits scene suggests that Shadow might be the main villain in the third film.

In an interview with The Playlist, Schwartz as careful to not spill any story specific but he teased, “For [the sequel], we blew it out so much, and for 3, it’s going to be bananas, it’s going to be crazy! I can’t wait.”
