Michael Mann, the writer/director of Heat, reveals that a sequel is in the works and that he wants Adam Driver to portray a younger version of Robert De Niro’s role.

Mann provided an update on Heat 2 when speaking with Variety about his upcoming biography Ferrari, admitting that he would love to film the prequel/sequel but is fine if he never does.

“You asked me about mortality, but I didn’t really answer,” he said. “The thing is, I don’t think about mortality. I’m busy. What good would it do me? If I absolutely had to make Heat 2, I wouldn’t have got lost in this beautiful story of Ferrari.” He added, “Don’t misunderstand. I want to make it. But if I don’t, I won’t be incomplete.”

“Adam and I talked about it extensively from before the strike began when we were still shooting Ferrari,” he continued.

Adam Driver is most recognized for his role as Ben Solo/Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, which includes The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), and The Rise of Skywalker (2019). From 2012 through 2017, he portrayed Adam Sackler in the HBO Max comedy series Girls.

Heat is currently streaming on Netflix.
