Denzel Washington’s role as Robert McCall in Equalizer franchise is coming to an end, but director Antoine Fuqua is already planning new ways to explore the legendary character.

In an interview with JoBlo, Fuqua agreed it would be an idea worth exploring the Equalizer prequel. “I think it’s a really good idea to do that, and go back,” Fuqua said. “You can get Michael B. Jordan or somebody to be the young McCall.”

Later on he said casting John David Washington as young McCall would be a good idea. “How cool would that be, man?”

NME published an article about Fuqua playing with the concept of de-aging Denzel Washington for an Equalizer origin narrative. Using Harrison Ford’s de-aging in Indiana Jones and Dial of Destiny as an example, Fuqua expressed his admiration for today’s technological improvements in de-aging effects. “Especially now with the new technology and the AI and all of that kind of stuff… Is there a story to be told about how [McCall] became this person — the younger version? I’ve had that conversation with Richard Wenk [Equalizer series screenwriter] quite a bit.”

Equalizer 3 will hit cinemas on September 1.
