Producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee share Sicario 3 could still happen, with a script ready to be continued after the strikes.
In 2015, Sicario, screenplayed by Yellowstone‘s Taylor Sheridan and directed by Dune‘s Denis Villeneuve, delivered a gripping action-thriller featuring standout performances by Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio del Toro. Blunt’s FBI agent joins forces with Brolin’s CIA officer to bring down a ruthless drug cartel leader. The enigmatic Alejandro Gillick, portrayed by Del Toro, adds an intriguing layer as a former Mexican prosecutor turned CIA assassin, driven by a personal vendetta. In 2018, Brolin and Del Toro reunited for the sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, delving deeper into the drug war along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The franchise producers Iwanyk and Lee have officially confirmed the development of a third film in a recent interview with The Messenger. Lee says, “When we can continue writing it. It was pencils down, but the idea is awesome.”
“I can’t wait for Sicario 3,” adds Iwanyk. “I could watch Benicio play that guy forever. I mean, I can watch Benicio in anything, but with that character, it doesn’t get old.”
Sicario and Sicario: Day of the Soldado both are streaming on Hulu.
