The first look at Mothers’ Instinct, the upcoming thriller featuring Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway has been released.
Described as “edge-of-your-seat thriller,” the movie tells the story of two best friends living next door to each other in the 1960s. Their happy lives in the suburbs take a scary turn when a tragic accident involving one of their kids happens. The film follows Alice (Chastain) and Céline (Hathaway) as their close friendship starts to crumble because of guilt and paranoia. A tense struggle unfolds, showing the not-so-nice part of a mother’s love.
Talking about the movie last year, Chastain drew a comparison between the film and Robert Aldrich’s 1962 movie, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane. “Annie and I, have a lot of fun in that movie. And it’s a throwback to another…I like to think of it like a little bit of ‘What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?‘” told Indiewire.
Chastain continued, “Of course, it’s a different kind of film, but it’s this idea of these two actresses coming together and playing this…the tension I think is very interesting. Thank god Annie and I love each other, so it’s a little different than that experience.”
The film marks the directorial debut of French cinematographer Benoît Delhomme. It features actors Anders Danielsen Lie and Josh Charles. The story is adapted from the suspense novel Mothers’ Instinct by Barbara Abel.
