Starz has opted not to renew Courteney Cox’s horror-comedy Shining Vale for additional episodes, leading to the cancellation of the series after its two-season run.
Friends star Cox played Patricia “Pat” Phelps in the series, a reformed wild child seeking fulfillment after achieving sobriety. Faced with a faltering marriage, Pat engaged in a passionate affair with a young handyman. In a final attempt to salvage their relationship, Pat and her husband Terry (Greg Kinnear) relocated their family to a spacious, ancient house in the eponymous suburban town. The house is haunted by a spirit (Mira Sorvino), visible only to Pat.
A representative stated, “Starz has made the difficult decision to not renew Shining Vale for Season 3. Unfortunately Shining Vale did not find a large enough audience for us to continue, but we hope to have the opportunity to partner with Courteney Cox, Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan in the future.”
The second-season finale of Shining Vale now stands as the show’s concluding episode. Both seasons will be taken off Starz’s on-demand library by the year’s end.
Jeff Astrof, who co-created the series with Sharon Horgan, shared on social media, “This show gave me unrelenting joy to work on. Not a single bad day. Please watch the Starz (turns out, Limited) series Shining Vale before 12/31.”
