Selena Gomez and David Henrie are returning for a Wizards of Waverly Place sequel series pilot.
The cherished Disney Channel sitcom from the 2010s is set to return to television, featuring a reunion of on-screen sibling duo Gomez and Henrie. According to reports, Disney has already greenlit a pilot episode for the sequel.
Only Murders in the Building star Gomez is slated to make a guest appearance in the pilot reprising her iconic role as Alex Russo—the character that played a pivotal role in launching her career. Meanwhile, Henrie will return as Justin Russo, securing a spot as a series regular. Joining the cast are new members Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos.
The revival pilot is spearheaded by writers and executive producers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, known for their work on another Disney Channel comedy spinoff, Raven’s Home. The storyline unfolds following a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin has relinquished his wizard powers to pursue a regular human life alongside his wife and two sons. However, his world takes an unexpected turn when a formidable young wizard seeking guidance appears at his doorstep. Justin is faced with a choice to embrace his past and safeguard the future of the Wizard World.
The role of the powerful young wizard, Billie, taken under Justin’s wing, will be portrayed by series lead Brown. Thiele is set to play Roman Russo, Justin’s oldest son, while Gianopulos will take on the role of Giada, Justin’s wife.
