Deborah Snyder reveals Rebel Moon director’s cuts will add more to the story and won’t be just be deleted scenes.
Rebel Moon, Zack Snyder’s sci-fi epic on Netflix based on an old Star Wars proposal, will be released in two parts. The films depict a peaceful colony under attack by the malevolent Imperium, with a lone warrior – Sofia Boutella’s Kora – venturing out to find friends to fight the foes. Co-stars include Charlie Hunnam, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Bae Doona, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, and Ed Skrein.
However, in true Snyder form, the filmmaker is already hard at work on R-rated director’s edits of each picture, which will have deeper character beats and even more spectacularly brutal action. However, these will be distinct from ordinary director’s cuts for one important reason.
In an interview with Total Film Magazine, producer Deborah tells, “The difference [this time] is that we’ve planned for it… it’s not an afterthought. We’re still tweaking, but they’ll probably be 45-minutes to an hour longer, each one. You get more character. You get a lot more of everything. It’s not just a few deleted scenes.”
Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire will be released on Netflix on December 22, with Part Two: The Scargiver following four months later in April.
