Taylor Swift Eras Tour is coming to cinemas.
Puck News reports that the movie releasing in October just after North American leg of her tour, costs around $10M-20M.
AMC and the other chains have done concert stunts in the past, and in 2021, AMC exclusively played a Chance the Rapper film Magnificent Coloring World, but the world’s biggest music star teaming up with the world’s biggest theatre company on a film that could play for months is as close to a no-brainer in entertainment as there is.
Ticket sales for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert film have already shattered records in less than 24 hours on the market, earning $26M for the circuit in presales.
According to Fandango, the singer’s film is in the top ten all-time greatest first-day presellers, with Avengers: Endgame, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
“Taylor Swift is giving moviegoing fans and the entire industry the ultimate gift by bringing [the] Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert film to the big screen,” said Jerramy Hainline, senior vice president at Fandango Ticketing.
IMAX has already sold out over 250 screenings and is out of stock on presales. According to CNBC, the firm is receiving the same percentage of presales as it would for a major tentpole film.
Swift’s concert movie chronicles her enormously successful tour, which grossed millions and was on its way to a record-breaking $1 billion in sales earlier this summer.
It replaced Universal’s The Exorcist: Believer, which decided to shift its release date to a week earlier just hours after the news of the pop star’s movie surfaced.
