Lionsgate is making changes to its release schedule, including rescheduling the video game film Borderlands for summer 2024 and rescheduling the Dirty Dancing 2 and Wonder prequel.

Filmmaker Jonathan Levine’s Dirty Dancing 2 has been pushed back from its original February 9, 2024 release date to the summer of 2025. Jennifer Grey will reprise her role in the film, which is a sequel to the 1987 hit starring Patrick Swayze.

Borderlands will now be released on August 9, 2024. The film is directed by Eli Roth, with additional cinematography by Deadpool filmmaker Tim Miller. Borderlands, based on the iconic video game franchise, is a great hit for Lionsgate, who landed big names to round out the large ensemble of characters. Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Haley Bennett, and Edgar Ramirez are among those on the cast list.

The game Borderlands was released in 2009 and spawned many sequels that sold a total of 66 million sales. Borderlands 3 was released in 2019 by Gearbox Software and 2K.

The revisions come at a difficult moment for studios, as they deal with concurrent writer and actor strikes, which disrupt both film production and promotion.
