The Last of Us creator Craig Mazin reveals that him along with Ted Elliot worked on a new script for Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

In an interview with LA Times, he reflected on the project, “We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird. And they did! And then he wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around.”

Since its inception in 2003, Johnny Depp’s iconic character, Jack Sparrow, has graced the screens in five films. After a six-year hiatus following the underwhelming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the future of the franchise has been shrouded in uncertainty.

Disney initially considered a female-led spinoff led by Margot Robbie, but it appears that project has been put on hold. After Depp’s legal battles, producer Jerry Bruckheimer hinted at bringing Depp back as Jack Sparrow, with things brewing behind the scenes.

In an interview with AP Entertainment published on Twitter, he said, “We’re still working on it. Nothing’s definitive yet, but we continue to take little baby steps getting towards a screenplay.”

However, Depp has shown interest in non-Hollywood projects, leaving his return uncertain.
