After two decades, Ginger and Rocky returns to continue their story in a Netflix stop-motion picture Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. We’ll see a new generation of characters and an all-new threat to the peace by our favorite flock. Let’s give you all the details you need about the new movie.
When is Chicken Run 2 Releasing?
Timing couldn’t be more perfect for the release of Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. The movie is available on Netflix from December 15. The film promises to be a festive treat for audiences of all ages. Following its premiere at the BFI London Film Festival in October, the feathery escapade is ready to make its home premiere, just in time for the holiday season.
A Feathered Legacy
Back in 2000, Chicken Run made history as the highest-grossing stop-motion animated film of all time, and the excitement for its sequel, Dawn of the Nugget, is soaring high. The first film opens as a parody on World War II prison. The majority of the chickens contentedly embrace their captivity, enjoying free meals. However, one named Ginger stands out, consistently attempting daring escapes. The story takes an exciting turn when Rocky the Flying Rooster, an American bird fleeing from a circus, becomes an unexpected savior for the flock.
Chicken Run not only delivers humor and a mischievous charm with its clever and visually inventive storytelling but also captivates audiences with its kindness and sweetness, offering tender and touching moments throughout.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget Plot
Directed by the acclaimed Sam Fell and produced by the award-winning Aardman Animation, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget picks up where its predecessor left off. Ginger, having orchestrated a daring escape from Tweedy’s farm, has found a peaceful island sanctuary for the entire flock, far away from the perils of the human world. The joy multiplies as Ginger and Rocky hatch a little girl named Molly, seemingly completing Ginger’s dreamy happy ending.
However, the tranquility is short-lived as a new and formidable threat looms large on the mainland, endangering all of chicken-kind. This time, the stakes are higher, and Ginger, Rocky, and their gang must once again defy the odds and set things right, even if it means putting their hard-won freedom on the line.

The ensemble also features the return of Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton, and Lynn Ferguson as Babs, Bunty, and Mac, respectively. Newcomers Josie Sedgwick-Davis, David Bradley, Daniel Mays, and Romesh Ranganathan add their voices to the mix, bringing new depth and energy to the characters.

Each voice adds a layer of personality to the characters, making Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget a captivating experience for both new and returning fans.
Chicken Run 2 Trailer
For those eager to catch a glimpse of the feathery escapades that await, the official trailer for Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget was unveiled in November. The trailer showcases the charming animation, witty humor, and heartwarming moments that have become synonymous with Aardman productions. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the world of Chicken Run, the trailer sets the stage for a delightful adventure filled with laughter, suspense, and, of course, plenty of poultry antics.
Why did Chicken Run 2 take so long?
Chicken Run 2 was delayed due to a flood, a fire, the impact of Covid, and unexpected hurdles like competition from Shrek. Despite these obstacles, the sequel Dawn of the Nugget finally arrived 23 years after the success of the original.
Creative director, Peter Lord tells New York Times, “It’s like you’ve just run a marathon and someone says, ‘Hey, how about running another marathon?’ You think, ‘Well, not just now.’ So right back in 2000s, we were perhaps not ready. But after that, we had no objection to making a sequel at all.”
Who is the villain in Chicken Run 2?
In Chicken Run 2, Mrs. Tweedy is the major problem-maker. Sam Fell reveals that initially it wasn’t planned to make her evil. “We didn’t have Mrs Tweedy, we had a male villain – as we were much more concentrating on Rocky as a character.”
Then, he explained that they aimed to put the spotlight on Ginger in the sequel, and having Mrs. Tweedy as the villain just made perfect sense. “When we’re thinking about Ginger, we were just thinking about how she would be kind of haunted by the past. And so the rematch, a chance for her re-face off with her nemesis and have to deal with the past, as well as with the present and the future of her daughter, it all came together really nicely.”
