Yuji Itadori‘s journey in Jujutsu Kaisen has been nothing short of extraordinary, but there’s no denying that he’s still facing some obstacles when it comes to growing his curse technique. In a world full of powerful sorcerers and evolving curses, Yuji’s focus on close combat has been a great help so far. But if he wants to keep up with the ever-evolving threats, especially after watching the epic Gojo Satoru-Sukuna battle, he needs to step it up a notch. As the protagonists of this action-packed anime series, expectations are sky-high for Yuji.
So, where should Yuji focus his efforts in order to achieve his highest potential? Let’s explore the details.
Where does Yuji Currently Stand?
One of the most interesting aspects of Yuji’s story so far has been the evolution of his abilities in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Despite the significant growth of his character over the course of the narrative, Yuji still has a relatively basic set of skills. His preference for close-quarter combat has been effective so far, however, as more experienced jujutsu sorcerers with a greater understanding of cursed energy manipulation become more prominent, it is becoming increasingly apparent that Yuji needs to increase his skills. This requirement for improvement is further emphasized by the recent epic battle between two of the most renowned jujutsu sorcerers in history, Gojo Satoru, and Sukuna.
In light of the foregoing, the question arises whether Yuji will be able to obtain the required power-ups by the end of the story or not. Although he does not necessarily need a unique ability, he does possess many skills that would be considered typical for a jujutsu sorcerer. While it is not necessary for him to master every aspect of Jujutsu, it is essential to expand his reserve in order to avoid entering the battle with obvious weaknesses and handicaps. If he wants to progress to the next level of Jujutsu sorcery like Gojo, he must master the basic elements of Jujutsu sorcery.
What Challenges Must Yuji Overcome?
Yuji’s greatest disadvantage is his lack of range. He is well-suited to close-range combat, however, he has difficulty dealing with opponents with long-ranged attacks, such as Choso’s Piercing Blood. Furthermore, Yuji’s defensive abilities are limited to limb-blocking, leaving him largely defenseless against the guaranteed hits of Domain Expansion. This is due to the fact that Yuji did not learn Anti-Domain techniques during his training. To become a high-level jujutsu sorcerer and bridge these gaps, Yuji must expand his skillset.
Learning from the Best: Gojo Vs Sukuna
Gojo vs. Sukuna was one of the most epic jujutsu battles within the manga’s pages. It was a battle between two giants—the greatest jujutsu sorcerer of all time and the greatest sorcerer of his time. As a reader, I couldn’t help but be mesmerized by the sheer power and skill of these two warriors.
At the start of the battle, it became clear that they had the upper hand when Sukuna released a bigger Domain Expansion, making sure that all of Gojo’s Malevolent Shrine’s attacks would hit the mark. Gojo is known for being immune to the Void, so this was an unexpected challenge for him. Even though he was at a disadvantage, he was still able to fight back by using reverse cursed and anti-Domain techniques. He also revealed some really cool stuff about his Domain Expansion, which had never been done in the series before. He was able to make his barrier last longer by changing the outer and inner shells, and he was able to expand his Domain after briefly covering Sukuna’s.
During this part of the battle, both of them cancelled each other’s domain Expansions, so it ended up being a battle of cursed techniques. It was just as good as the first part, though. Gojo used his Red, blue, and Hollow Purple combos really well, and Sukuna showed off his new Ten Shadows summons, especially the Mahoraga, which is always changing. One thing to note is that Sukuna didn’t reveal his Innate Technique, so a lot of people were wondering if it would work against Gojo Infinity.
The battle also had a lot of close combat, full of Domain Amplification, and lots of Black Flashes, so both of them had to keep an eye out for each other’s strengths and weaknesses and come up with plans to fight against them. This epic battle between Gojo & Sukuna set a really high bar for the future of jujutsu, showing that you need to be really strong, have a bunch of different skills, and be really smart to be the best. So if Yuji wants to reach this level of fighting power, he’ll need to have all of these qualities as he grows and develops his curse technique.
How can Yuji Improve His Curse Technique?
Yuji’s real chance to make it big in jujutsu is to develop an innate skill that would give his opponents something to think about when they’re trying to fight him. Even if it’s just making up moves that he already has, it would give him a huge advantage. It could open the door for him to learn the most advanced jujutsu techniques, like Maximum Techniques, Domain Expansion, and more. Depending on what kind of innate skill Yuji has, it could give him the ability to make a better Divergent Fist, or a more powerful attack.
When it comes to Maximum Techniques, it’s like Bankai in a different way. But what exactly is Yuji’s special ability? He hasn’t revealed anything, so far. Fans are speculating that it might have something to do with his ability to change his memories, which you can see in his conversations with people like Todo or Choso. Plus, Gojo’s comment about Yuji getting Sukuna’s powers is a bit of a mystery since Yuji is now a vessel. And then there’s the chance that he might inherit his mom’s antigravity system.
In the meantime, Yuji’s plan is to keep working on his basics until more is known about his true skill set. He could try out techniques that aren’t specific to any one jujutsu master or family. Learning reverse curse techniques to help him heal himself, especially after long-range hits or really bad ones, could really help his strength. People like Shoko or Yuta can help heal themselves, but it would be great to learn how Gojo can do it too. Plus, learning Anti-Domain techniques like Simple Domain and Domain Amplification would be really helpful even if he never gets Domain Expansion. All of these skills would definitely help Yuji’s overall jujutsu skills.
Does Yuji Have Enough Time for These Developments?
As the manga draws to a close, the big question is whether Yuji will have enough time to pick up new curse technique. Kenjaku’s and Sukuna’s attacks call for quick boosts, so Yuji might be able to tap into the power of the other Death Paintings Wombs and increase his cursed energy in some crazy way. Or else, a near death experience could really shake him up, just like it did all the other sorcerers in the story.
Also, relying on friends is a classic shonen thing to do, but Yuji should also try to be independent, especially now with Megumi’s obsession and Nobara’s fate in doubt. He should have all the tools he needs to fight Sukuna as independently as he can against Kenjaku.
Ending Notes
At the end of the day, Yuji has a long way to go before he can compete with the best jujutsu sorcerers in the world. But with a bit of hard work and dedication, he’ll be able to push past his limits and make it to the top. Fans can’t wait for him to get even better, and we can look forward to even more amazing battles and amazing jujutsu skills in the future.
