The action scenes in the Scott Pilgrim anime are incredibly grand in scale, to the extent that if they were brought to life as a live-action production, it would cost more than Avatar.

BenDavid Grabinski, co-writers for Netflix anime Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, discusses the magnitude of the fight sequences in an interview with Empire magazine. “There’s an extended fight sequence in Episodes 2 and 3 that, if this was a live-action movie, would cost more than Avatar,” he claimed. “It would be so unbelievably big. And you don’t have to think that way. You’re not limited.”

“If you made a live-action movie of the show that we did, I think it would be the most expensive movie ever, and you’d be shooting for 10 years,” he continued. “It would be a total Hearts of Darkness situation.”

Scott Pilgrim anime adaptation of the beloved graphic novels, brings together the franchise creator, Bryan Lee O’Malley, and co-writer Grabinski as they take on the role of producers, alongside the talented Edgar Wright.

O’Malley didn’t contribute to the 2010 live-action film, despite creating the Scott Pilgrim universe. However, the film, which had its fair share of box office struggles, has since skyrocketed to cult classic status. And who could forget its star-studded ensemble featuring Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson and Aubrey Plaza.

The good news is that most of these A-listers will be returning to lend their voices to their beloved characters in the upcoming animated series.
