Director Ron Clements, John Musker | 7.2/10
Cast Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emma Thompson, Martin Short |
Ron Clements (The Little Mermaid) and John Musker (Aladdin, Moana) are two of the most famous Disney directors. They’ve been passionate about Treasure Planet (2002), a futuristic take on Treasure Island, for years.
It was a financial disaster, but it’s since become a fan-favorite animated movie. It’s the classic story of young Jim Hawkins, a pirate, on a mission to find a treasure trove. The only real difference is that this one has space and robots, which makes it even better than the original story.

Genre Action, Adventure, Comedy, Sci-Fi | Runtime 2 Hour 4 Minutes
Director Peyton Reed | 6.1/10
Cast Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas |
The third Ant-Man film in the series stars Paul Rudd as shrinking Scott Lang and his family in the Quantum Realm, where they face their greatest threat yet in the form of the mighty conqueror Kang, played by Jonathan Majors. Picking up where the last Ant-Man film left off, this one plunges into a new realm of color and chaos, with breathtaking action and a star-studded cast.
Written and directed by Yes Man’s own Peyton Reed, Ant-Man: The Wasp drops audiences back into the world of the MCU as we learn more about the mysterious Quantum Realm and how it’s connected to the rest of the universe. It’s also a great return to the world of Star Wars for star-crossed daughter, daughter-in-law, and sister-in-law Michelle Pfeifer.

Director Gary Trousdale, Kirk Wise | 6.9/10

Towards the end of the 2000s, another fan-favorited animated film was released by Walt Disney Animation. This film features Michael J. Fox’s character, Milo Thatch, a linguist, who is conscripted to join a mission to the center of the Earth to discover the city of Atlantis, which has been lost for centuries.
While the film may appear to be more action-oriented than science-fiction, the intricate character-building and creative production design of the film make it a technological marvel, both in terms of its plot and production.
Wall-E

Genre Animation, Adventure, Family, Sci-Fi | Runtime 1 Hour 38 Minutes
Director Andrew Stanton | 8.4/10
Cast Ben Burtt, Elissa Knight, Jeff Garlin |
If you’re looking for a great Sci-Fi movie to watch after Lightyear, Wall-E is the one for you. Ben Burtt plays the titular robot, who used to be a trash compactor on a long-forgotten Earth. Most of his time was spent playing with his cockroach, and he used to spend a lot of time watching Hey, Dolly!
But then, a much more sophisticated robot named Elissa Knight arrived on Earth, looking for any sign of life. Eventually, she found a plant, that could be the key to saving the planet, and Wall-E fell in love with her.
Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope
Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope
Genre Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi | Runtime 2 Hour 1 Minutes
Director George Lucas | 8.6/10
Cast Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher |
It is possible that almost all of the Star Wars films on this list could be included, however, to be fair to the studios other than Lucasfilm, we will only include the one that initiated the saga. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope is not only a science fiction film, but it is the only science fiction film of its kind.
If you are just beginning to learn about the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire, the Episode IV part may confuse you. If you wish to embark on the unique journey known as the Skywalker Saga, this is the film you will want to begin with.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Guardians of the Galaxy
Genre Drama, Comedy | Runtime 2 Hour 30 Minutes
Director James Gunn | 7.9/10
Cast Chris Pratt, Chukwudi Iwuji, Bradley Cooper |
If you’re looking for a big-budget franchise with multiple films that could make it onto this list, then you don’t have to look through all the Marvel movies you’ve seen over the years to find a good one. Guardians of the Galactics is a comedy about a human who loves music and a group of other characters, including a killer, a robot, a raccoon, a talking tree, Dave Bautista, and Vin Diesel.
It stands pretty much on its own when it comes to the Infinity Saga, but it’s still one of Marvel’s funniest movies. Plus, it has some emotional moments in between all the comedy, so it’s worth checking out. And if that wasn’t enough for you, there’s also Vol. 2, which is just as great, if not better, and you can even watch it on Disney Plus.
Avatar
Avatar | ||
Genre Action, Adventure Fantasy, Sci-Fi | Runtime 2 Hours 42 Minutes
Director James Cameron | 7.9/10
Cast Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver |
In the wake of Disney’s acquisition of Twentieth Century Studios, the studio was able to secure the highest-grossing film of all time, Avatar (2009) directed by James Cameron. This five-part epic is set to take audiences to Pandora, a planet of beauty and danger, where humanity seeks to exploit its resources.
The RDA organization created the Avatar program, which enables humans to control avatars similar to themselves to improve relations with the indigenous Na’vi. When former Marine Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, joins the Avatar program, he soon realizes that the planet and its inhabitants are far more valuable than a precious ore. Avatar (2009) is set to be followed by its sequel, Avatar (2023), on Disney Plus later in the year.
