You’ll be surprised to know that Melissa Joan Hart, whom we 90’s kids watched on shows like Clarissa Explains It All and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and who isn’t that much old, is now taking on the roles of a grandmother.
A post on X/Twitter, gained attention featuring a clip of Hart acting in the Lifetime original movie, Would You Kill for Me? The Mary Bailey Story, where she plays Ella, the grandmother. Many were surprised to see Hart, taking on the role of a grandmother, as it seemed unexpected given her youthful image.
As a ’90s icon, Hart’s influence spans multiple generations thanks to her iconic roles. The impact of Clarissa and Sabrina characters is still a hot topic on social media among Gen Z and Alpha, who continue to discuss their significance. However, it seems some Gen X and Millennial fans are currently experiencing a bit of a meltdown.
“I just saw a clip of Melissa Joan Hart playing a grandmother. Someone hold me I am unwell,” one user wrote on X.
“I just saw a clip of a movie where Melissa Joan Hart was playing a grandma and when i tell you my brain said ‘can not compute’ no way I’m that old,” said another.
Addressing the uproar, the TV icon took to her Instagram account to share her thoughts. Flattered by reactions, she added a touch of wit by playfully putting a new spin on her classic shows.
“While I’m proud of my performance in my most recent movie #WouldYouKillForMe, I couldn’t be more flattered that people don’t think of me as a grandmother (no matter how possible it is at the age of 47). It’s also refreshing to go viral for my work and not something controversial. I guess now Clarissa can Explain AARP or play the Middle-Aged Witch.”
Sabrina the Teenage Witch streams on Hulu.
