Universal and Blumhouse production The Exorcist: Believer makes $27.2 million domestically and $45.1 million globally on the budget of $30M.
They bought the rights to make three movies in the Exorcist series from Morgan Creek back in July 2021 for $400M. Even though the new movie did better than any other Exorcist movie in terms of opening sales, the people at Universal are not too happy.
They were expecting more. Both the studios is worried because the earnings are not as high as they hoped, and they’re not sure if the movie will make enough to be considered a success.
The Exorcist Believer is the first of three planned sequels to the famous 1973 movie The Exorcist directed by William Friedkin. If you’re familiar with this new version, you’ll know that it’s not just one young girl who’s possessed by the devil; but two are dealing with this demonic challenge.
Critics are tearing apart The Exorcist: Believer, currently holding an extremely poor Rotten Tomatoes score of 20%. This score not only falls below any of Green’s Halloween movies but also ranks as the third-lowest in the entire Exorcist franchise. Only Exorcist II: The Heretic and Exorcist: The Beginning received worse reviews.
