The reputation of Rurouni Kenshin is undeniable, carrying prestige for decades among anime fans. However, its once-gleaming status took a hit a few years ago with the distressing news of the series creator’s arrest in Japan.
Since then, Rurouni Kenshin anime has encountered a challenging journey with its fanbase. Now, the new star of the series Howard Wang, is stepping forward to address the entire situation.
Wang reached out to fans on Twitter/X after taking up the role of Kenshin’s titular lead. “To address the elephant in the room: Yes, I’m fully aware of the crimes of the author, and I do not condone or support those action in any way,” the actor shared. “As such, a portion of all my earnings for Kenshin are being donated to charity.”
Although temporarily shelved in 2017, the Hokkaido Arc has regained momentum since its revival in June 2018. With the confirmation of an anime adaptation for this sequel in Rurouni Kenshin, Wang was brought in to oversee the lead character in the English dub. Now, the actor is leveraging his platform to address the very crimes committed by Rurouni Kenshin‘s creator Nobuhiro Watsuki.
